EDPS play an important role in engine optimization. They are needed to provide the engine control units (ECU) with the necessary information about exhaust gas pressures and the filling level of the diesel particulate filter (DPF). NTK Vehicle Electronics' EDPS range includes differential pressure sensors (DPS), exhaust pressure sensors (EPS) and high pressure sensors (HPS). These sensors can be installed in various positions in the vehicle.
The DPS measures the pressure drop between two positions in the flow pattern. It is installed at various points in the exhaust manifold (upstream/downstream of the DPF, upstream/downstream of the catalytic converter, upstream/downstream of the turbocharger or upstream/downstream of the EGR cooler (exhaust gas recirculation)). At one point, it controls the low-pressure gas recirculation. At the other point, it monitors the function of the particulate filter and reports the charge status back to the control unit.
The EPS measures the pressure of the exhaust gases and reports this information back to the control unit. It can be mounted before the DPF, before the turbocharger. With two EPS, the pressure drop between two positions in the flow pattern can also be determined.
The HPS measures the back pressure of the exhaust gases. It is installed either before the DPF, before the turbocharger, after the turbocharger, or after the EGR cooler. This information is sent to the ECU, which uses it to monitor and protect the turbocharger unit. Monitoring the outlet air pressure prevents backpressure damage to the exhaust manifold. For EGR valves and EGR coolers, the information is also used to adjust and control the exhaust gas recirculation rate - important for compliance with emission standards.
With a vehicle coverage of 62% in the NORDIC region, NTK Vehicle Electronics has the largest range among premium brands for EDPS.
"The NTK Vehicle Electronics brand stands for high-quality sensor products in OEM quality. The extension of our existing NTK product lines with the new EDPS is another consistent step to offer our distribution partners and independent value shops a high-quality and complete sensor range," says Thomas Nelles, General Manager Aftermarket DACH & NORDICS, Niterra EMEA GmbH. "From July 2023, the new EDPS range will be available for our distribution partners - and will be found in Tecdoc or the electronic catalog applications."
As the EDPS becomes more common in newer vehicles of all makes, positive market growth is expected in the coming years. This in turn will enable the reduction of vehicle emissions. While EDPS currently tend to be used in diesel vehicles, their presence in gasoline vehicles is expected to show a stronger growth rate in the coming years.
The NTK Vehicle Electronics brand offers world-class quality service and a local sales presence that enables customers to take advantage of a competitive offering. The new EDPS product line is now available in stores and is accompanied by technical video support and published in TecDoc, Catalog Excel Master and the new Part Finder.
