Premium throttle bodies mark significant expansion of NTK portfolio

NTK Vehicle Electronics, the globally trusted provider of OE equivalent sensors and valves for the automotive aftermarket, announces the addition of a significant new throttle bodies line to its portfolio this late autumn, helping drivers to meet tough new emissions standards.

The launch marks another aftermarket development from Niterra, the major global automotive supplier and parent company of both the NGK and NTK brands. As such, NTK Vehicle Electronics benefits from decades of engineering excellence and innovation from both Niterra and its industry-leading NGK Ignition Parts brand. With this new introduction, the advanced NTK brand becomes an all-round vehicle electronics provider.

From now on, 189 premium NTK throttle body part numbers will be made available to aftermarket customers for the first time, immediately offering 52% coverage of vehicles in operation (VIO) in EMEA – one of the highest percentages in the market.

This major addition establishes NTK Vehicle Electronics as a leading player in the supply of OE quality equivalent throttle bodies, as well as further expanding its already extensive electronics lineup. Every part is cross-referenced to Original Equipment and carries the brand’s well-earned, long-standing reputation for extreme durability, reliability and performance, backed by superb after-sales support. With each reference matching a number of applications, the lineup also offers exceptionally broad market compatibility, presenting ample opportunities for replacements and upgrades.

The throttle body is a crucial part of every combustion engine, including cars, motorcycles, heavy goods lorries, marine craft and industrial vehicles. Located in the intake tract of the engine, it regulates the incoming air flow or air-fuel mixture. This helps to optimise the combustion process and thereby reduce the emissions, enabling car manufacturers to meet ever-tougher emission goals. Like all NTK Vehicle Electronics components, the throttle bodies are meticulously designed and rigorously tested to meet both existing and future emissions standards.

Customers choosing NTK Vehicle Electronics throttle bodies will find convenient references for both petrol and diesel powertrains, as well as all three generations of technology required to service vehicles built across the last forty years – electrical (drive-by-wire), hybrid and mechanical. Of the 189 references, 165 are electrical throttle bodies common to almost all modern cars from the 2000s onwards. In petrol engines this technology detects a driver’s intention through an electrical accelerator pedal (e-gas). The engine management system continuously compares this signal with engine sensor data to calculate the optimum position of the servomotor-controlled throttle valve. In diesel engines, throttle valves use an electric motor to throttle the intake air, to precisely control exhaust gas recirculation and prevent disruptive vibrations when the engine is switched off. For vehicles built from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, 16 of the introductions are hybrid types employing both electronic signals and a mechanical cable. There is also a selection of eight mechanical, cable-controlled parts for vehicles dating to the late 1980s or early 1990s.

Together, the NTK throttle bodies cover an initial car parc of around 133 million vehicles in operation in EMEA. Key car makers covered include VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Ford, Alfa Romeo and Fiat, alongside many others. Given this broad compatibility, the new lineup is expected to do well throughout Europe, including the big five car markets of Germany, France, the UK, Italy and Spain.

For aftermarket customers the launch converts NTK to an all-round vehicle electronics solution provider, completing its existing portfolio of manifold absolute/boost pressure (MAP) / mass air flow (MAF) sensors, oxygen sensors, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves, engine speed & position sensors, exhaust gas and differential pressure sensors (EDPS), and exhaust gas temperature sensors (EGTS).

Frank Massia, Director Marketing Aftermarket EMEA at Niterra EMEA GmbH confirmed:

“The addition of OE quality equivalent throttle bodies to NTK Vehicle Electronics not only enhances the brand, but it also strengthens an already comprehensive range of excellent products for aftermarket customers. With a particularly wide coverage of premium brands and engine technologies, distributors and workshops will be able to meet an extensive range of vehicle needs.”

The throttle bodies are packaged in an eye-catching, protective box, featuring a label across two sides for fast identification, easy scanning and flexible stock management.

All of the throttle body references, OE and applications data will be available on our Part Finder. A multi-language product catalogue and technical training on TekniWiki will also follow soon.
