Niterra Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has completed the planned acquisition of Toshiba Materials Co., Ltd. From this point forward, the new member of Niterra Group will be renamed Niterra Materials Co., Ltd.

The integration of Niterra Materials into the group presents a valuable opportunity to expand investment and drive product development focused on advanced material technologies, particularly silicon nitride components for e-mobility applications. Niterra Group will be able to leverage a significant store of experience in this field in order to consolidate core internal combustion engine (ICE) related business, whilst additionally growing important non-ICE interests.

Toshiba Materials had a well-earned reputation for innovation, precision and reliability. As a pioneer in material technologies, with a history of developing and supplying high-tech components, it was the first company in Japan to manufacture tungsten filaments for incandescent light bulbs. It was known worldwide for its expertise in silicon nitride parts. Together with Niterra’s own experience in the ceramic area, the new company will be able to facilitate the faster development of sustainable car components, including silicon nitride ceramic balls and silicon nitride heat dissipation substrates. The former are key components in the powertrains of electric cars, while the latter are crucial elements in the production of power semiconductors. Both of these technologies are viewed as fast-growing areas of business and will significantly contribute to Niterra Group’s growth in the mobility and electronics sectors. Ceramic balls are seen as particularly key to the wider development of electric vehicles as they increasingly adopt higher voltage systems.

“The establishment of Niterra Materials will offer a valuable opportunity to leverage the technologies that Toshiba Materials has previously developed in industries including automotive. The integration of this and Niterra’s own ceramic expertise will bring beneficial synergies in areas such as research and development, the expansion of our customer base and a significant boost to our EV-related technologies,” said Damien Germès, President & CEO of Niterra EMEA GmbH, Regional President EMEA and Corporate Officer of the Global Headquarters in Japan.

This integration marks a pivotal milestone in the group’s transformational journey. Niterra not only seeks to grow new business opportunities, but it also intends to utilise the strengths and potential of both companies to tackle global challenges, and in doing so, to continue moving towards a more sustainable future.
