NGK Northern Ireland annual golf day

It may not have been The Ryder Cup, but competition was fierce when NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd held its 27^th Northern Ireland annual golf day.

On a changeable day weather wise, fun and frustration was the order of the day for the keen golfers at Dunmurry Golf Club.

Following the golf, the party then travelled into Belfast city centre where they enjoyed an evening meal and prize presentation at Salt Bistro Restaurant in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter before staying the night at the Ramada Encore Hotel.

Winner of the low handicap section and the NGK Shield was Vincent McCaffery, of Antrim Autoparts, with 35 points. Runner-up with 34 points was last year’s winner Niall Patrick, of RT Autoparts in Cookstown, with Trevor Uprichard, of Fyfes Vehicle and Engineering Supplies, Ballymena, a close third.

The scoring in the high section was not as close with Eric Reid, of Colin Adams Motor Parts in Newtownards, coming out on top with 39 points. Matt Maguire, of North Down Motor Factors, Newtownards, came second with 30 points, and Colm Donaghy, of North West Motor Factors, Limavady, scored 28 points to finish third.

The NGK staff competition was won by Marko Wowczyna, Director – Automotive, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd. Trevor Uprichard, of Fyfes Vehicle and Engineering Supplies, Ballymena, triumphed in the longest drive competition, and NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Managing Director Tammy Suzuki picked up the nearest to the pin prize.

At the end of the evening a special presentation was made to Tony Harte, of Aiken Autospares in Enniskillen, marking his retirement after 40 years in the Northern Ireland aftermarket. Tony was one of a very small number who had attended nearly all the previous 26 NGK golf days.
