NGK: the home of champions…

Ignition specialist NGK is a long-time supporter of Speedway – and is proud to be the home of champions.

Following Britain’s Robert Lambert’s achievement in being crowned the 2020 European champion, fellow NGK-sponsored rider Wilbur Hancock has won a prestigious national USA title.

Fifteen-year-old Wilbur – the son of four-time World champion Greg Hancock – has just won the 250cc AMA Youth National Speedway Championship in Auburn, California.

He said: “Job done. National champ 2020. So stoked. Went 3,3,3,3,2,3 and ended up with a great start in the final. Can’t thank everyone enough. I’m speechless. Love to you all. “

Wilbur’s legendary father Greg has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with NGK, being sponsored by the company for many years before his retirement earlier this year.

His success came hard-on-the-heels of King’s Lynn rider Lambert becoming the first Briton to win the European championship.

Lambert said after winning the title in Poland: “I’m honoured to be European champion. I’m just so happy about it, I can’t believe what’s happened. In the situation we’ve been in with the virus there’s not been so much racing, but to be able to come and pull off something like this, I’m very happy.

“Thanks to everyone who’s been helping me and supporting me throughout, and I hope I’m making the British fans very happy because they’ve got no Speedway to go and watch at the moment as the league is cancelled.”

Mark Hallam, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “It has been a great achievement by both Robert and Wilbur to win such prestigious championships in what has been a season that has been so severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.”

Many of the World’s top riders are sponsored by NGK, with their 500cc bikes fitted with the company’s racing spark plugs. These include Britain’s three-time World champion Tai Woffinden who currently sits in third place in the 2020 championship.
