With heavy rain on Friday, only one free practice session could take place which resulted in an extended qualifying session of 45 minutes taking place on Saturday afternoon when Rouse recorded a time of 1m29.410s putting him in an excellent fifth place on his Kawasaki ZX-10RR for the Norwich-based Morello Racing team.
The Lincolnshire venue saw good conditions for the race and after two incidents brought the safety car out Rouse lay in fourth place. When the safety car pulled in, the riders were faced with a four-lap dash to the flag.
Going into the final lap, he was locked in battle with Taylor Mackenzie and Tom Neave for second place but try as he might, he was unable to find a way by and had to settle for fourth place behind race winner and championship leader Richard Cooper.
Rouse said: “I was planning on making my move on Tom Neave at the end of the straight on the last lap. I wasn’t quite close enough and although there was a slight opportunity at the hairpin it would have been a bit of a lunge so rather than risk a crash, I took the safe fourth. I would have loved another podium but it wasn’t to be so that will be my aim at the next round.”
Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “Chrissy had a great race at Cadwell Park and only just missed making the podium which bodes well for the rest of the season.”
The next round takes place at Oulton Park, Cheshire on September 6-8 when Rouse will be looking to improve on his seventh position in the championship standings.
