Former NGK senior manager Tim Ward has completed an epic 500-mile bike ride in the USA to raise money for Rugby League Cares.
Tim, who retired as Deputy General Manager – Key Accounts for NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd in April this year after 21 years’ service with the ignition and sensor specialist, took part in the UK Red Empire State 500, a ride from Niagara Falls to Central Park, New York.
The 60-year-old was invited to participate in the event having taken part in previous cycle rides to raise money for Rugby League Cares. All riders were required to pay a participation fee to help cover some of the costs of their flights and accommodation and had to commit to reaching a minimum fundraising target.
He said: “The ride is completed; total miles were 555 with 12,170 feet of climbing. I’m really satisfied how my body dealt with it; the whole experience was magnificent.”
He added that highlights included watching the New York Yankees baseball team in action against the Chicago Cubs at the Yankee Stadium.
