Charlie – who is sponsored by ignition and sensors specialist NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd – and her teammate Jack Fabby enjoyed a stunning opening day of the season at Silverstone with a win and second place to lead the Praga category of the championship.
They qualified fourth overall and third in class ahead of the day's two races. Charlie started the first race and held firm in third place in the Praga class during her stint and her efforts meant Fabby was able to re-join the race in contention for victory.
Following their race win, the pair lined up second on the grid for the second race with Charlie once again taking the start of the race, which saw an extended safety car following a first lap incident. Despite a 15-second success penalty, the Powerhouse Performance by the duo battled to second in class.
Charlie, who designed the livery of the stunning 365bhp race car, said: “It's been a brilliant day! I'd like to say a huge thanks to all of the team, we've spent a lot of time testing and preparing to get to this moment so to come away from the weekend with a win and second place is really rewarding for everyone.
“The plan for the start of each race was to just keep it clean and avoid any trouble, which I was able to do! From there we just needed to keep pushing and make the most of any opportunities, which we did with the safety car in the first race.
“As a new class in the championship, there were a lot of firsts for everyone which made it even more special to be fighting at the sharp end of the field. We enjoyed some brilliant racing and I'm really grateful to Jack for sharing all his knowledge of the car – we've got a really good base to build on as we push ahead for the rest of the season.”
Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “What a fantastic start to the new season for Charlie. Her performance over the two races was amazing in the stunning Praga R1. We wish her and Jack all the best for the next round at Snetterton in two weeks time.”
