Charlie celebrates second place in US championship

NGK Ambassador Charlie Martin and teammate Jason Keats ended a memorable debut season together by claiming second place in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo LB Cup in the USA.

A rollercoaster meeting at Portimão looked set to go down right to the wire until a race two puncture spoiled the pair’s chances of taking home the championship win.

The event started in perfect fashion as Charlie secured her fourth pole position of the 2022 campaign with Keats returning a third place starting position for race two as the pair set their sights on overhauling an eleven-point deficit.

The duo finished second in race one which reduced the lead at the top of the championship to just three points before the final race of the season and were in second position in race two when disaster struck as a punctured tyre forced Keats to limp back into the pit before Charlie returned to take the car from last to fifth position.

The pair then went into the World Finals with Charlie claiming pole position for race one by nearly half a second and taking third place before powering #154 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 to fifth position in the final race. These results gained the duo a fourth-place finish overall in the World Finals to sign off an excellent season.

Charlie said: “We gave it everything and took the title fight right to the wire but it wasn't to be as the puncture in race two spoiled our chances. Nonetheless, achieving P2 in the championship is a great achievement and we couldn't have done it without our amazing team. On a personal level, I was really pleased to achieve two more pole positions to sign the year off - particularly in the World Finals.”

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, a leading supplier of original equipment (OE) spark plugs, glow plugs and NTK Lambda sensors, is a long-term supporter of Charlie.

Mark Hallam, Marketing Manager, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “It was a tremendous achievement by Charlie in this prestigious American championship and I’m sure she is looking forward to next season with great confidence.”
