READY, STEADY, GO: NGK SPARK PLUG IS OFFICIAL SUPPLIER OF SCUDERIA FERRARI FOR THE 22ND SEASON

In the current Formula One season, NGK Spark Plug, the most renowned ignition brand for road and racing, for the 22nd consecutive season takes the position of Official Supplier of Scuderia Ferrari, the most successful and rich-in-tradition Formula One team.

 

In more than two decades of cooperation, Scuderia Ferrari has collected numerous titles sparked by ignition technology from NGK Spark Plug. Since the team joined forces with the world’s leading spark plug manufacturer, six World Championship Drivers’ and eight Constructors’ Championships as well as countless Grand Prix titles have gone to Maranello. For the coming months and races, NGK Spark Plug has once more tailored a high-tech spark plug towards the specific needs of the high-rev engine for Scuderia Ferrari’s SF70H racing car, which is hitting the Formula One tracks piloted by Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen. 
As the petrol engine on-board the car is capable of delivering a maximum of 15,000 revolutions per minute, the spark plug must guarantee up to 125 ignitions in just one second. In doing so, it must also withstand extreme vibrations and thermal stress. “Designing a spark plug which performs at its best even in such extreme conditions is a challenge for everyone involved and proof of our ability to outperform in racing,” says Damien Germès, Senior Vice President at NGK Spark Plug Europe.
He concludes: “Our success in the motorsports arena also provides impetus to Original Equipment and the Aftermarket. Precious metal spark plugs and semi-surface spark plugs are just two examples for technologies which are common in today’s road cars and which benefit the driving experience and environmental protection. They stand for innovations that debuted in motorsports and made it to Original Equipment later. For this reason, we enjoy seeing our company logo on the SF70H just as we enjoy the continued trust Scuderia Ferrari puts in our ignition competence. We wish the team every success!”

NGK also hopes to see the number of successes rising. In Formula One alone, NGK Spark Plug has been involved in more than 300 victories so far and in the taking of a total of 32 Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships.
