slashes Press release from 06/21/2016

Ratingen, 21.06.2016 – To meet increasing demand in its markets, NGK Spark Plug Europe’s parent company NGK Spark Plug Co., Ltd. is expanding its production capabilities for spark plugs. In doing so, the ignition and sensor specialist recently put a new plant into operation in Komaki, Japan.

The sails are set for expansion: By 2020, NGK Spark Plug Co., Ltd., the world’s leading spark plug manufacturer, plans to have reached an annual production capacity of one billion spark plugs − 30 percent more than its capacity today.

To reach this goal, NGK constructed an additional production plant for spark plug components with about 26,000 square metres of production area at the company’s traditional site in Komaki. Construction started in May 2015. The plant was completed in March 2016 and required an investment of seven billion Yen (approximately 57 million euros). The factory will primarily manufacture centre electrodes and components for spark plug terminals. It is designed to be environmentally friendly, with low energy consumption and geothermal energy used for the air conditioning system.
