NGK Spark Plug Europe introduces ceramic OE glow plug to the European Aftermarket

Ratingen, 06.04.2016 – In the role of almost exclusive supplier of glow plugs for passenger car diesel engines to Mercedes-Benz, NGK Spark Plug Europe provides the exclusive OE glow plug CZ108 for the Smart fortwo 2 Cdi. An identical glow plug with the corresponding designation CZ158 is now available for all independent workshops in Europe, enabling vehicle service on a par with that of authorised workshops.

 

The CZ158 (Mercedes Part No. A6601590401, NGK Stock No. 94171) is an NHTC (New Ceramic High Temperature) glow plug with a fully ceramic, highly efficient heating element and extraordinary glowing characteristics. It is equivalent to the CZ108, which NGK – the world’s leading glow plug manufacturer and almost exclusive OE supplier of glow plugs for Daimler AG’s diesel engines for passenger cars until at least 2019 – designed especially for the common-rail, three-cylinder OM660. Since early 2010, this engine has been powering the Smart fortwo 2 Cdi. With 40,000 registrations in Europe, this car offers significant Aftermarket potential. The Cdi engine is also the smallest diesel engine for passenger cars and the engine with the lowest CO2 emission values. 

NHTC glow plugs from NGK contribute strongly to the engine’s environmental friendliness and its reliable cold-start behaviour. Thanks to their fully ceramic heating element, they reach an operating temperature of 1,000 °C in less than two seconds. In doing so, they guarantee a cold start similar to that of a petrol engine even at lowest ambient temperatures. Additionally, they are capable of post-glowing at a constant temperature of approximately 1,350 °C for many minutes, helping to reduce the output of pollutants and particulate emissions.
