Fiat’s new 2.2-litre multi-jet II common rail engine is available in two power stages which deliver 136 kW (185 hp) and 147 kW (200 hp) respectively, both with a maximum torque of 440 Nm. Commercially launched in July 2015, it is one of the most powerful and economic engines featured in the Jeep Cherokee. It is also FCA’s first diesel engine ever to feature ceramic glow plugs from NGK.
NGK Spark Plug Europe developed the CZ503 glow plug as Original Equipment for the engine. The plug is a second-generation New Ceramic High Temperature type (NHTC2) with outstanding glowing characteristics. It reaches its operating temperature of 1,000 °C in just one second and can post-glow for more than ten minutes at temperatures of up to 1,350 °C. In doing so, it allows for an environmentally-friendly cold start and smooth idling even at lowest temperatures and guarantees minimum output of particles and pollutants. As a result, it contributes significantly towards the engine’s compliance with strict EURO6 emission regulations.
