NGK Spark Plug Europe is exclusive spark plug supplier for BMW S1000R

slashes Press release from 04/22/2015

Ratingen, 27.3.2015 – From the very first day, NGK Spark Plug has been the exclusive supplier of spark plugs for BMW’s Supersports Bike S1000RR, which hit the market in 2009. In 2014, a new version of the motorbike was launched: The “Dynamic Roadster” variant S1000R features a new engine – and BMW again chose NGK as exclusive supplier of the spark plugs. BMW uses the LMAR9D-J spark plug – a type which has already proved its worth within the group.

The S1000R comes with the K47 engine, which evolved from the K46 used in the S1000RR. The new motor delivers 118 kW (160 hp) from a stroke volume of only 999 ccm and takes the naked bike from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. The maximum speed of the motorbike is specified as 261 km/h.

Like the K46, the new engine uses an OE spark plug from NGK. The world’s leading spark plug manufacturer supplies BMW with the LMAR9D-J spark plug (NGK product no. 1633). It features a 26.5-mm-long thread with a diameter of only 10 mm. The centre electrode is made from a resilient nickel alloy. On the ground side, the spark plug comes with a special design: It has two very short ground electrodes to improve the service life and to guarantee the highest level of robustness even at high speeds.

About NGK: NGK is the world’s leading manufacturer of spark plugs, glow plugs and lambda sensors. The Company runs production plants and sales organisations all over the world. With a total of 13,000 employees, the Company generates an annual turnover of around 2.7 billion euros.
