NGK Spark Plug Europe: Another NHTC glow plug from OE now available for the Aftermarket

Ratingen, 11.02.2015 – The world’s leading manufacturer of glow plugs, NGK Spark Plug, has made a New Ceramic High Temperature glow plug (NHTC) available to distributors and workshops which is used as exclusive OE in Mercedes-Benz’s six-cylinder OM642 engine. It features a fully ceramic heating element to guarantee a perfect cold start and clean combustion.

 

In 2007, NGK Spark Plug Europe supplied Mercedes-Benz with NHTC glow plugs for the first time. By 2010, these had become the premium car manufacturer’s exclusive OE glow plugs for diesel passenger cars. In 2012, they secured the position of exclusive OE glow plugs for all current diesel cars and all four and six-cylinder engines to be launched by 2018.

With the NHTC glow plug CZ159, NGK has now made another glow plug from the company’s OE business with Mercedes-Benz available to the trade and workshops. Its fully ceramic heating element reaches its operating temperature of approximately 1,000 °C in less than two seconds and enables constant after-glowing temperatures of around 1,350 °C. Thanks to these characteristics, it minimises the output of noxious pollutants and particulate emissions, thus contributing strongly to the OM642 six-cylinder engine’s compliance with EURO5.

The CZ159 (NGK part no. 95398, Mercedes part no. 6421590101) has the D-Power short number 84 and is fitted as Original Equipment in the 3.0-litre models C 350 CDI, CLS 350 CDI, E 350 CDI Coupé/Cabriolet and GLK 350 CDI (all 195 kW) as well as in the GL 350 CDI Bluetec, ML 350 CDI and S 350 CDI (all 190 kW) – to name just a few applications.
